Benefits
Why People Move to Turkey Now
Turkey passed Law No. 7582 on 4 June 2026, and it added Article 20/D to the Income Tax Law. That article gives new residents 20 years without Turkish tax on what they earn abroad, which is why people with income from abroad now look at Istanbul, Antalya and Izmir.
0% on Foreign Income for 20 Years
Once you are a Turkish tax resident and hold the exemption certificate, Turkey does not tax your foreign-source income for 20 years. Which means your foreign dividends, interest, rent and capital gains stay yours.
Open to Every Nationality
The exemption works for any person who had no home and no tax liability in Turkey in the three calendar years before moving. That includes Turks who lived abroad and now come back.
No Return for Exempt Income
Exempt foreign income stays off your Turkish tax return. So when all your income comes from abroad, the yearly Turkish paperwork stays small.
1% Inheritance Tax
Law No. 7582 also set a 1% inheritance tax rate during the 20-year period. That gives families who plan ahead a far lower rate than the normal Turkish scale.
Residency Through Property
A home worth at least USD 200,000 supports a short-term residence permit, issued for up to two years at a time. And after eight years on a permit you can apply for long-term residence.
A Big Country to Live In
Istanbul gives you one of the largest cities in Europe, and the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts give you sea and sun for most of the year. Most of Europe and the Gulf is a short flight away.
How it works
How to Get 0% on Foreign Income in Turkey, Step by Step
The exemption needs three things in the right order: a right to stay, Turkish tax residency, and an exemption certificate from the tax office. The certificate has a hard deadline, so the order matters more than the paperwork. Here is every step as it happens.
- Before you move
We check that you qualify
Free call
You tell us where you lived and worked in the last three years and how you earn. Then we tell you whether Article 20/D applies to you, and which of your income it would cover.
We choose your permit
Before you fly
Next we pick the residence permit that fits you, such as property, tourism or family. And we send you the exact list of documents, so you only get them once.
Tax number and insurance
Before you file
Then we get your Turkish tax number and set up the health insurance the permit needs, because every short-term permit needs insurance for the whole permit period.
